We all know that politicians lie on a regular basis. Usually, it is for political gain, either direct or indirect. One theory has it that the death of Osama bin Laden was faked so that Barack Obama could distract people from the controversy surrounding his birth certificate. I have never thought that the ‘birthers,’ people who believe that Obama was born somewhere outside America, as being believable. Whenever someone is vetted before they become President of the United States, they are investigated thoroughly and anything like that would undoubtedly come up and the Presidential candidate’s critics and rivals would pounce on it immediately.

However, President Obama is not the only one accused of lying when it comes to the death of bin Laden. George W. Bush is rumoured to have caught bin Laden several years before the terrorist’s actual death. Supposedly, Bush was keeping the body frozen until he could benefit politically from the announcement that Bush and his administration had caught bin Laden. However, I am not sure that this makes sense. Surely before Bush left office, he would have announced bin Laden’s capture? How would it benefit Bush to have his successor capture bin Laden, which is exactly what happened, of course.

The fact that bin Laden’s body was buried at sea has done nothing to quell rumours about what actually happened to the man who after September 11, 2001, was the most wanted man in the world.
