Kris Kardashian Jenner: Is she a good parent?

· Popular culture

Kris Kardashian Jenner is a very famous woman these days. But is she a good parent? It depends on your perspective. If providing substantially for your children’s financial welfare counts, then she has been a very good mother indeed. I remember in an episode of one of her shows that the reason why she works so hard is because she wants to make sure her children never work as hard as she has to. However, at some point, if you are making millions of dollars per year, a few years in, and you’re pretty well guaranteed a secure financial future! I guess it never hurts to have more money, but there are other considerations of life.

Another way of looking at whether or not someone is a good parent is to see what morals they have passed on to their children. I remember in the first episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians that there was a stripper pole being used by the two youngest sisters, Kendall and Kylie Jenner. I thought this was inappropriate, to say the very least. There might not be anything wrong in and of itself, but it is certainly a sign of permissive parenting. Permissive parenting has been associated with a lot of risk factors for children as they enter adulthood and have to interact with the rest of society. The high rate of divorce in the family does not seem to be a good omen and it matches what people think of the permissive parenting style. The permissive style does not prepare people for life because they have had no boundaries so they don’t understand such a concept when it comes to other people.

I remember an episode where Kim complained about her manicure because Kris Humphries, in being slightly rough with her, had damaged it. She was extremely upset and almost seemed desperate. In Act 1, Scene 5 of Shakespeare’ “Hamlet,” Hamlet says to Horatio, “There are more things in heaven and earth…than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” Meaning that Horatio did not conceive of many truths in the world because his mind just would not “go there.” He was incapable of thinking on that level. This is what I feel about Kim. She has good intentions, perhaps, but she has a narrow view of the world, probably as a result of the way she was raised. If it seems slightly narcissistic (Narcissus was the Greek god who fell in love with his own reflection), perhaps it because her mother is narcissistic?

Kim has been divorced twice and is now pregnant with the baby of a third man. Khloe seems like she is on the way to a divorce, although I like her the most, so I hope that she proves the naysayers wrong and stays married for a good long time! Kim’s divorce from Kris Humphries is notoriously acrimonious, and he is seeking an annulment because he feels she used him for the publicity of a wedding and did not really love him. Kourtney has an extremely strange relationship with Scott. She is not married to him but has two children with him.

None of this is to judge anyone’s worth as a human being, because God loves all of us and it would be the height of pretentiousness to consider ourselves better than anyone else. God is the only one who knows us so completely that He can judge us. Unless we are wearing a black robe and people habitually refer to us as “Your Honour,” we should not be judging anyone!

However, we can raise some questions based on what the Kardashians generously show us. It does not seem to be a healthy dynamic. What do you think?
