Piers Morgan, the CNN talk host, has strong opinions about what America should do about gun control in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. He went on Twitter the day the tragedy occurred, and posted several tweets about what gun control policy should be in the United States. He says that no one under 25 should be allowed to own a gun. There should be a limit of one firearm per person. Although Alex Jones http://www.infowars.com/piers-morgan-wants-to-eviscerate-2nd-amendment/ disagrees with Piers Morgan, I think the talk show host makes very good points. There should be a mandatory mental health history check. Jones kind of ridicules Morgan for his suggestions by saying that they would have to raise the age for people to enter the military, etc. But I think these exceptions are obvious. Morgan is tweeting his thoughts using 140 characters per tweet. He can’t get into all of the nuances of the argument each time he tweets. He is just making general suggestions.
Jones accuses Morgan of being ambiguous about what is meant by a mental health history check. I think there should be a database kept by the authorities about who owns guns, and what their mental health history is. Before buying a gun, there should be a lot of questions asked, and information gotten by the person selling the gun.
I realize that the black market exists. But this is a step in the right direction. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Morgan, a British subject, commenting on this American problem. We are all connected in this world, and the gun control problem affects absolutely everyone. Jones says that Morgan wants to get rid of, to demolish, the 2nd amendment, but this is not the case. Morgan does not want people to stop having the right to bear arms; he merely wants stricter gun control, as do many others, including me. Morgan only wants to ban all guns for people he refers to as convicted criminals. Isn’t this just common sense? I’m not sure why Jones has such a problem with this. Of course, we have to put this into context. Jones is a conspiracy theorist, who believes that the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting. He is suspicious that the government is planning false flag situations so that the people in general in America will accept having their guns taken away from them. I agree with some of the things that Jones says, but I see no problem with what Morgan is suggesting.
Morgan is an excellent talk show host. He has great guests, he asks good questions, he is passionate, but fair. He does not seem excessively partisan. I think his background as a newspaperman has held him in good stead for this job. I would go so far as to say he is better than Larry King, although King had his own strengths.
